Ford Extended Warranty - Ford Protect®: Plan Options & Advantages

Ford Protect Overview - Sarchione Ford Randolph

These days, the life of a well-cared-for vehicle will always extend past the vehicle’s warranty period. In many ways, this is good, as it’s an indicator of the excellent reliability we can expect from modern vehicles. But it does also mean that a lot of people have no coverage in the event that something does happen that requires a repair. While this might continue to be a problem for a lot of people, Ford buyers have the option of a Ford Protect Extended Service Plan. This plan can extend coverage up to 10 years or 175,000 miles. There are actually several different versions of the Extended Service Plan though, so Sarchione Ford of Randolph put together this guide to what the plans consist of and why they’re a smart investment.

What Is The Ford Protect Extended Service Plan?

Ford Service

The idea behind the Extended Service Plan is pretty simple, it gives you some extra piece of mind beyond the coverage timeframe that comes with the New Vehicle Limited Warranty. But there are actually four different plans to choose from, allowing you to select the one that best fits your budget. These are PowertrainCARE, BaseCARE, ExtraCARE, and PremiumCARE, listed in order of the number of systems and components that they cover. So, as the name suggests, the PowertrainCARE plan covers critical engine and transmission components, while the PremiumCARE offers the most coverage, extending to more than a thousand components. These plans are for gasoline, diesel, and hybrid vehicles. Electric vehicles have plans as well, and they’re essentially the same plans, just with one fewer option, as there isn’t a PowertrainCARE plan for EVs. Here is a simplified breakdown of each plan, as well as links to the brochures so that you can download them if you want more detailed information:

Ford Protect Premium Maintenance Plan

Having warranty coverage for repairs is important, but proper maintenance is important as well, as it’s the best way to avoid unexpected repairs in the first place. Ford has a plan for this too, called the Premium Maintenance Plan, which is also a part of Ford Protect, but is separate from the Extended Service Plan. This plan covers routine inspections, preventive care, and the replacement of normal wear and tear items. This includes:

  • Engine oil and filter changes
  • Multi-point inspections
  • Tire rotations
  • Brake pads and linings
  • Shock absorbers/struts
  • Spark plugs
  • Clutch discs
  • Engine belt
  • Engine coolant hoses, clamps and o-ring seals
  • Wiper blades
  • Diesel exhaust fluid fill at the time scheduled maintenance is performed at dealership

The maintenance required for each vehicle is different, with even different model years of the same vehicle having different requirements sometimes, so the plans have specific pricing and include different things for different vehicles. But there are two brochures, one for gasoline, diesel, and hybrid vehicles, and one for electric vehicles. You can download them here:
