Ford Resale Value Guide

Ford Resale Value - Sarchione Ford

Vehicles are one of the bigger purchases most people make, and unfortunately, the one that’s basically guaranteed to depreciate the most. But not all vehicles depreciate at the same rate, and the confidence that the public in general has in a given brand plays a major part in this. That’s good news for Ford, since confidence in Ford is high, but in order to fully appreciate this, you have to really dig into the numbers. To help you with that, Sarchione Ford of Randolph has put together this guide, which breaks down several aspects of resale value, and shows how Ford is ahead of the game in these areas.

Ford Resale Value - Kelley Blue Book

Kelley Blue Book 2023 Best Buy Award

The name Kelley Blue Book is synonymous with resale value. No higher authority on the subject exists, so their annual Best Buy awards are extremely useful for keeping track of which models make for better investments. Only mainstream brands are considered, and one vehicle is chosen for each segment. These aren’t exactly resale value awards, but this being Kelley Blue Book, the factors considered are the ones that make up a solid resale value. For the 2023 awards, Ford models won four different categories1, more than any other single brand. These are the Ford models that won 2023 Best Buy awards:

  • 2023 Ford Expedition
  • 2023 Ford Maverick
  • 2023 Ford F-150
  • 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning
Ford F-250 Super Duty

Ford Trucks

Ford is the leader in pickup trucks, with the F series outselling all other vehicles in the US market every year for decades. You might think that that would negatively affect resale value, since prices are often driven by scarcity. But, the opposite is true of Ford trucks, with resale value staying strong for the same reason sales of new Ford trucks are so good, they are simply exceptionally good trucks. This is especially true of Super Duty models, which rate much higher than the competition. Over a five-year period, the F-250 Super Duty will retain an average of 87% of its value2, an exceptionally good rating. And the F-350 is almost identical, at 86.95%. The F-150, though not a Super Duty, is still much higher than the competition at 86.75%. To contrast this, the GMC Sierra 2500HD, the F250’s direct competition, will only retain 71.3% of its value over the same five year period. The F-150’s competition fares slightly better, but with the Ram 1500 only holding onto 75.6% of its value, it still simply can’t compete with the Ford numbers.

Ford Reliability - iSeeCars

Ford Mustang

Ford Mustang

Mainstream sports cars typically aren’t known for their resale value. In fact, Kelley Blue Book doesn’t even have a sports car category for their Best Buy awards. But there are other sources we can look to for information on the subject, such as the iSeeCars reliability rankings. Reliability is the most important factor for determining resale value, and all of the KBB awards winners are also ranked first in their category for reliability. So it’s very much worth noting that the Mustang ranked #1 in the iSeeCars reliability rankings3 for sports cars and that the #2 car was the Mustang Convertible. As it was with the trucks, Ford manages to shine even in categories that prove challenging for other manufacturers.
